Everybody already knows about “wellness” – it’s when you’re not sick, drunk, depressed, stressed, or arrested. Or maybe it’s simply not being sick. Or could it be a science, not just a New Age-y cover-all.
So if it’s medical science, is it a bunch of shots and tests plus rectal exams? Naw. It’s actually ACTIVE healthcare – it’s in your hands. Because when you’re sick, it’s PASSIVE: doc plays the tune, you dance.
So what is the science of preventing illness? Here’s what it’s not — your yearly exam when your doc says, “you’re OK, lose some weight, see ya in a year”. That doesn’t prevent much from the minute you walk out of the clinic.
But we can really study you these days. REALLY study you. Then you can ACTIVELY do what science says will really prevent life-threatening and common illnesses. We can go deep into the corners of your health. We can even predict and give you odds of cancer, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, etc. Then, REAL prevention is when you ACTIVELY head these off these off long before they think about attacking you.
Here’s where it stops being passive. You can actively maximize 5 results-driven pillars of keeping or restoring your wellness. YOUR wellness: the pillars are all slightly different for all 8 billion of us. That’s why a personalized, medically-driven program helps you keep well.
First pillar is exercise. Everybody from Harvard to Royal Medical Academies say this is better than any drug we have for your heart, lungs, brain, etc. For example, Harvard cardiology found out that men who can do 40 push-ups are 96% less likely to have a stroke or heart attack than men who can do less than 10. You can go to the gym and you or you and your trainer can push a little harder. But you can scientifically measure where you are in cardio, strength, flexibility, balance, posture, weight-to-height, visceral and percent fat, etc. then you can actually plan how to improve or maximize these components of health.
Second pillar is nutrition. When you first think about healthy diet you say you would rather die than eat that drab, tasteless stuff. But the fact is, along with exercise, a plant-based (not vegan unless you want to) diet that avoids simple carbs and trans fats (the kind in pastry and processed foods) can actually taste pretty good. Here in VN all that seafood and some great chicken more than makes up for that candy bar or soft drink. Go low – on carbs – and suddenly food tastes better and along with exercise makes you fel energy that may have gone missing years ago.
Third pillar is micronutrients – vitamins and minerals, etc. Not everybody needs them, some need quit a bit – again 8 million answers to that one. But for the people that they help, it can be a game changer.
Fourth pillar is hormonal replacement. Again, not for everybody, but worth testing as you get to the Big 4-0 and beyond. This can be the energizer and make you feel (and look) 10 years younger if you have hit menopause or are getting close. Pay attention, Gents: same thing happens to you: your testosterone goes down 1% per year after age 30. When many of us hit 50 or beyond, we’ree just not running on all our cylinders of our manhood. Again, science can measure and restore the treasure.
The last pillar is the toughest. That’s stress and mental attitude. If you are buried in anxiety over work and personal life, your social circle is unraveling, etc., that. Too, steals your wellness and invites the heart attack or stroke to come on in. Fortunately, if the other pillars are optimized stress gets less. But maybe mindfulness, yoga, someone to talk to will help. Meds may help but that is passive and once you get active about your health, even this one – stress and anxiety – tend to fade.
The right doc and program can help you personalize and individual all the pillars, just tailor-made for you. This assist and expertise helps you actively take your health into your own hands.
Well, I’m the dummy if I keep writing and think that you’ll keep reading. So I hope this is helpful for you to get active about your health – maybe with a little help from your friends.
